LaMa Walks
Guided with purpose. Led with safety.
LaMa in Nepali refers to a Buddhist monk and is also a common surname among the Tamang community, an Indigenous ethnic group of Nepal with deep roots in the Himalaya. LaMaWalks takes its name from its founder and director, Rajesh Lama, reflecting both cultural heritage and a lifelong engagement with the mountains. In 2024, Mr. LaMa walked from Kathmandu to the summit of Everest covering 432.6 KM on foot making it one of the historic walk of the generation.
Founded in 2015, LaMaWalks is a Nepal-based trekking and mountaineering company built on the philosophy of Body, Mind, and the Outdoors. We design carefully considered journeys that balance physical challenge, mental awareness, and meaningful connection to place, rather than rushed or checklist-driven itineraries.
Our programs span iconic Himalayan regions such as Everest and Annapurna, as well as culturally and ecologically significant destinations including Gosaikunda and the remote Kanchenjunga region. Each expedition is intentionally paced and professionally managed, with a strong emphasis on acclimatization, risk management, and responsible travel practices.
LaMaWalks also operates as a social enterprise. We actively support the development of sport climbing in Nepal, with a particular focus on empowering and sponsoring female climbers. In addition, we run outdoor education programs for high school and college students, using the outdoors as a platform for experiential learning, leadership development, and environmental awareness.
Our team is composed of experienced guides, outdoor educators, and wilderness professionals who bring local knowledge, international guiding standards, and a deep respect for the environments and communities we work in. With LaMaWalks, travel in the Himalaya is not only about reaching destinations, it is about moving with intention, care, and respect through one of the world’s most remarkable landscapes.
