“Lama” is a Buddhist monk in Nepali language. It is also a common last name of a specific ethnic group in Nepal: Tamangs. In ancient times, Tamangs were warriors and considered to be migrants from Tibet. The name “LaMa Walks” comes from the last name of the Founder and Director of the company, Rajesh Lama, who also belongs to the same ethnic group.

Founding Director

LaMa is a founder director, Trip curator and explorer at LaMa Walks. With his outdoor experience of more than a decade, he believes in fare wage, equality and growth for everyone in his team. LaMa is a big-time environment enthusiast and run a “buy nothing community” called Buy Nothing Nepal in Nepal where things are exchanged or given away to promote the concept of reducing and reusing. He is also a wilderness first responder and facilitates in back country medicine trainings when at city. Did we say he is also a singer/ songwriter?

Rachana

Rachana Lama

Wellness Instructor

Rachana Lama is wellness instructor at LaMa Walks. She designs and leads wellness programs for our clients and staff. She is also a passionate trekker and a certified wilderness first aid responder. She walked from her home in Kathmandu to Everest base camp making it up there in 24th day starting her journey on 1st April 2024.

Srijana

Srijana Tamang

Guide

Srijana is one of our super guides who loves wall climbing and has bagged lots medals in local climbing competitions. Supported by LaMa Walks, Srijana shows her immense love and passion towards outdoors. I find peace when in nature, she shares with us. She is also wilderness first aid certified and goes out for trail hunting whenever she gets time.

Manish is a very dynamic character in our team. Listening being his one of the biggest strengths, he always thrives for team achievement along with his personality development. Apart from his work life, Manish once in a while finds himself a time to go and explore a new destination near and away from Kathmandu.

Sonam

Sonam Jangbu Sherpa

Guide

No one knows Khumbu better than Sonam Jangbu Sherpa. Born and raised in the land of high Himalayas, Sonam has huge respect for his culture, people, and local traditions. Sonam completed his higher studies in Kathmandu. “We should never forget our roots and always be thankful for what we’ve learned says Sonam. Sonam goes back to his village quite frequently when needed to attend festivals and also to take care of his family business.

Nima

Nima has been with the company for the since it’s establishment. Nima is LaMa Walks back bone. Either it be to recruit Nepali staff group or to lead them, make logistical arrangement and execute it swiftly, Nima makes things done. A village boy from Rasuwa is now living his dream in outdoor adventure says Nima when asked upon how he feels being in outdoor.

Lama navigated the ever-changing Covid requirements with ease, leading us on a challenging trek through Nepal's rugged beauty. After this experience, I won't need to look for another trekking guide again.

Safety

At LaMa Walks, your safety is our priority. Our insured, qualified staff will guide you on every trip. We urge guests to have travel and medical insurance, share relevant details, and disclose any medical conditions in advance. Always follow your guide’s instructions and inform them before taking any medication during the trip.

Respect

At LaMa Walks, guests must respect staff, fellow trekkers, and local communities. Share any special needs, like dietary requirements, before your trip so we can accommodate them. Once your trip begins, the plan must be followed, and guests must stay with the group, except in emergencies.

Responsibility

LaMa Walks follows a "leave no trace" policy and provides reusable water bottles, avoiding single-use plastics. Our staff receive fair wages, aligned with industry standards. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required one month before your trip to secure staff availability. No refunds are given after the trip begins, but a full refund is provided if LaMa Walks cancels the trip.

These values influence our company policies, as well as our code of conduct. LaMa Walks policies and code of conduct outline the expectations of both clients and LaMa Walks in any adventure. All LaMa Walks guests will be expected to adhere to these, and sign a copy of it prior to their trip.
